84 West Walnut Condo Remodel

Our repeat clients embarked on a challenging journey with us, taking on a dated condo that had been poorly maintained on the top floor of Old Penney’s building. From the failing historical patio door to the clunky bathrooms, wasted space, and the kitchen that was difficult to navigate, we faced numerous hurdles that we successfully overcame with skilled teamwork and a keen eye for detail.

Our collaboration with the Historical Society was instrumental in the project’s success. Together, we created plans to install a replacement patio door that met their requirements and a strategy to lift the door, as a crane was not a viable option due to the steep roads and limited access. Vertical Access Professionals worked with our team to lift the new door 100ft into the air and into its new home.

On the inside, we remodeled both bathrooms one at a time to facilitate a live-in renovation.  New cabinetry serves both functional and storage purposes. It allows the primary bathroom to have a more accessible flow, along with grab bars, a low-entry point shower with a textured pan to ensure safety, and solid surface panels for easy maintenance. Toto toilets with washlets are a mainstay in this remodel, as are the Corian countertops with integrated sinks.

We opened the guest bathroom walls and gained additional space next to concrete support columns that helped us increase the entry clearance and maneuverability.  The cabinetry was custom-built to help achieve greater clearances, and the tub remained with grab bars installed and all new fixtures for accessibility.

Both bathrooms, equipped with Magic Door II systems, feature significantly improved accessibility. These systems allowed us to open up the entries to both bathrooms, providing full access and enhancing the overall functionality of the space.

The kitchen, which was not easily navigable and had wasted space, was redesigned.  To accommodate a sit-at-bar and flat peninsula, we opened up the entry wall. We also opened the coat closet and relocated the electrical service panel to the other side, maximizing the use of the kitchen’s design.

Corian countertops, an integrated sink, and custom grooved backsplash help keep the kitchen areas easy to clean. We added upper and lower cabinet lighting for ambiance and ease of use, and the new appliances, along with a living room bar extension, help round out the newly renovated space.

A new shelf, designed by the client and constructed off-site by our team, was a significant addition to the space. We carefully noted the client’s design and space considerations, ensuring the shelf was not only functional but also a stylish addition to house her books and art collection.

In addition to the major renovations, throughout the condo, several other upgrades and finishes were made. These were carefully selected to elevate the space for our clients and contribute to the overall success of the project.
